Beam Bench Docs

Software Update

Opens when you check manually or click an available-update notification. Downloads and installs a new build.

The Update dialog shows the available version, the release notes, and the buttons that drive the install. The actual download does not start until you click Install and Restart.

When it opens

The dialog does not auto-open on startup. Instead:

  • On startup, if Settings → General → Check for updates on startup is enabled and a newer build is available, Beam Bench pushes a notification ("Beam Bench <version> is available.") with a View action. Clicking View opens this dialog.
  • Manually, when you check for updates from the app menu. If a newer build exists the dialog opens; if not, you get a notification ("Beam Bench is up to date.").

If you previously snoozed or skipped the current available version, the startup notification is suppressed until the snooze expires or a newer version appears.

What you see

  • Available version + Current version.
  • Release notes (scrollable).
  • Download progress bar: appears once Install and Restart is clicked.
  • Error message if the download or install fails.
  • Install blocker warning: appears when the install cannot proceed (for example, an active job is running).

Buttons

The exact buttons vary by state:

ButtonWhenAction
Not nowAlwaysCloses the dialog and snoozes update reminders for 24 hours.
Skip this versionWhen idleSuppresses prompts for this specific version. Future versions still prompt.
Install and RestartWhen idleDownloads the update, installs it, and relaunches the app. The download starts when you click this button, not earlier.

While downloading or installing, all buttons disable.

Notes

  • Install is blocked when an active job is running on the machine. Pause or finish the job first.
  • The download is on-demand, not background: clicking Install and Restart is what triggers the download. Plan around it on a metered connection.
  • Escape and click-outside dismiss the dialog only when no operation is in progress.
