Preview takes forever
The Preview window's 'Generating preview...' overlay shows for many seconds (or minutes) before clearing.
You see
You open Preview (Alt+P) or edit the project. The Preview shows Generating preview... for a long time before the actual simulation appears.
What is happening
The planner has to process every cut, every fill line, every raster pixel, and convert them into machine moves with timing. Complex projects have a lot to process.
Fix
This is essentially the same content as Preview is slow, repeated here for the performance-focused entry point:
- Fewer objects plan faster. Group, simplify, or remove unnecessary detail.
- Coarser scan interval drastically reduces fill plan time. A 2x coarser interval = ~half the planning time.
- Smaller rasters at necessary DPI only. Do not engrave a 6000-pixel-wide image at 0.05 mm interval if your laser cannot resolve it anyway.
- Reduce passes during testing.
- Close other heavy apps to free CPU.
A specific case: too many small features
If your project has 1000 small text glyphs (e.g. a long body of text engraved as outlines), the planner has many starts / stops to compute. Welding text outlines (text option Welded = on) reduces the count significantly.
Watch for runaway plans
If preview never completes (overlay stays for minutes), the project may have malformed geometry that confuses the planner. Try:
- Open layers one at a time and preview each. The problem layer is the one that hangs.
- In the problem layer, identify the object, sometimes a single corrupt path is the cause.
Verify it worked
- Preview generates in seconds.
