Firmware

Talk to your machine's controller. GRBL setup, baud rate, the $ settings.

The firmware running on your machine's controller is the layer between Beam Bench and the motors / laser. For GRBL machines, the firmware accepts G-code over serial and stores its configuration in EEPROM via $ settings.

You usually do not need to touch firmware after initial setup. When you do, the guides below cover the operations you are most likely to need.

When to dive in

  • First-time setup of a machine.
  • After mechanical changes (motor, pulley, leadscrew) that require new steps/mm.
  • When connection fails (baud rate mismatch).
  • When laser power behavior is off ($30, $32).
